May is our #1 month for severe storms (ie. tornadoes and such). I don't have any pretty, up-close photos of recent storms. But, I thought it'd be appropriate to share one of a gorgeous rainstorm during this stretch. This photo was taken in July 2007 at Lake Hefner in north Oklahoma City, as the front was moving over the area. The contrast between (+ blurring of) clouds, sky, rain, and water ripples was stunning to see.

...
Love, if you love me,
lie next to me.
Be for me, like rain,
the getting out
of the tiredness, the fatuousness, the semi-
lust of intentional indifference.
Be wet
with a decent happiness.

This is a great shot. I love storms.
Wonderful photo. I like the poem too.
Here, that rain is snow. I like the way the rain is so isolated in your frame. I had no idea Oklahoma City had such a large body of water.
I think the most dramatic outdoor light there is comes from dark storm clouds giving way to sunshine. Well made photograph.
Thank you all for visiting my blog, and for your comments. :)
thien - Really severe storms still make me nervous, but a good, soaking, intense or gently rumbling thunderstorm... well, yum. :) It's one of the things I sincerely enjoy about Oklahoma.
tanty - When I read that poem, I fell in love. ;)
iammbb - Snow? I admit, I feel pathetic with Oklahoma's
ridiculously hot summers, but I also can't imagine coping with snow in May either. :o Is that unusual for your area? As for the lake, it's not a swim lake, but sitting my its edge and letting the water lap over my feet (especially on a really windy day) is as good as I can get so far from the ocean. :o :)
strangetastes - I agree - nature's contrasts are quite stunning.

Great photo! I love it. We love Lake Hefner too because it's not far from our friends house so when we visit them we go on picnics o people watching but I have never been there in a storm!
We are definitely some poor little humain beings compared to this awesome machinery.
kenziekylanmom - thank you. :) Do you visit OKC often? We lived in Tulsa for a couple of years (for work) - it was an enjoyable stretch. We went to an international festival one November that had booths from dozens of countries, plus beautiful dancing. Do you know if that's an annual event?

Matthieu - nature certainly does keep things in perspective. :o :)
Thanks for visiting!
Yes, that international festival is a yearly event. We usually attend it and the Asian festival (our children are Korean) and we enjoy both of them. We usually go to the City every other month and we were just there for the Memorial Day weekend. I don't want to step on your toes or anything but will probably be posting several shots from our visit. I enjoy your photos and loved reading about your views of OK and I do agree with a lot of them regarding closed minded people. We get tons of comments about our Korean children when we head to Wal-Mart but that is usually the only place that we hear rude comments.
